Understanding Reverence, Trust, and Obedience
Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Many people want peace without surrender.
Many want wisdom without obedience.
Many want God to remove fear while still holding tightly to control.
But Scripture teaches us that reverence, trust, and obedience are deeply connected.
Reverence is not merely saying we believe in God.
Reverence changes the posture of the heart.
It teaches us to recognize:
God is holy,
God sees clearly,
God understands what we cannot,
and God knows what leads to life.
Trust grows when we begin believing that God truly knows the way even when we cannot yet see it ourselves.
Sometimes obedience feels difficult because we are still trying to understand everything before we move forward.
But faith often means walking before we fully understand.
This is why obedience is not about perfection.
It is about surrender.
Trust says:
“Lord, I believe You know what is best.”
Obedience says:“
Because I trust You, I will follow.”
Reverence reminds us that God is not trying to harm us through correction.
He is trying to lead us into wisdom, protection, healing, growth, and life.
Sometimes fear clouds discernment because we become more concerned with:
pleasing people,
keeping comfort,
avoiding conflict,
maintaining control,
or fearing loss.
But when reverence for God grows stronger than fear of man,
peace begins to grow inside us.
We stop living trapped by pressure.
We begin learning to walk by faith instead of emotional reaction.
This does not mean life suddenly becomes easy.
It means we begin walking differently through difficulty.
Jesus never promised that faith would remove every mountain immediately.
But He did promise to walk with us through them.
Sometimes the greatest act of obedience is simply continuing to trust God
one more day.
One more prayer.
One more surrender.
One more step.
And often, it is through those quiet daily choices that God transforms our hearts the most.
